How to Add Storage Media to the BMPCC and Save Money Posted: 30 Aug 2021 06:20 PM PDT The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera series is a popular one for filmmakers. It's available at a reasonable price for the capability of the technology, but it does require a bit of modification and thought to get the very best out of it. SD, CFast or external hard drive? Find out how to get the most storage for your money without compromising on speed or size in this article. How to Choose and Add Storage to the BMPCCEach of the Pocket Cinema Camera models – 4k, 6k, 6k Pro – have the same storage options:
Whichever storage you choose, make sure you check compatibility on the Blackmagic site. For example, we have a Samsung T5 SSD drive — which I'll talk more about shortly — and it's one of the most popular methods of storage for the BMPCC, but the newer version, the T7 isn't compatible. The recommended storage options are different for each camera (4k, 6k, 6k Pro) so it's worth bearing that in mind. SD (Secure Digital) and CFastThough SD cards have come a long way in terms of storage and speed in balance with price over the last decade, they're not the most cost-effective option when it comes to storing large video files. UHS-II has really bumped up transfer speeds and so you should have no problem writing even high-quality footage to them, but you're still looking at paying over £100 for a recommended brand with 512GB of storage. CFast cards tend to write at higher speeds than SD and faster than their predecessors CF cards. They look very similar to CF cards but they're actually a fraction thicker and have different connections, so a CF card won't fit in a CFast slot. CFasts are reliable storage, they fare well in most temperatures and are pretty solid so you're not likely to accidentally snap or break one like you might an SD. Comparatively though, they're very expensive. For 512GB as in the SD example above, taking a recommended brand, it'll set you back around £500, if not more. USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 Expansion PortThe great thing about having the USB-C option is you can pop an external drive into your BMPCC which gives you a lot more flexibility between speed, price and storage space. One of the most popular options – for the BMPCC 4k – is the Samsung T5 SSD (solid state drive). It's one of Blackmagic's recommended storage options and when it comes to storage and price you can see why. You can get 1TB for around £100 which is considerably more GBs for your buck than you get with SD and CFast options. If you choose to go down an SSD route there are a few things to consider on top of which hard drive you pick:
It's worth digging into that final point a bit more because not everyone will use their BMPCC in the same way, some will have it primarily on a tripod, some handheld, some with a cage, or a gimbal, and so on. You might need something extra to secure your SSD, like a mount bracket or a universal holder. Attaching this to your camera will be much easier if you've got a cage around your Blackmagic. To avoid common problems like breaking the input/output ports, we leave the SSD plugged in all the time. When transferring data off, it's left on the camera and we plug into the SSD, so that it isn't being taken off and put back on all the time. The storage might seem a little vulnerable when it's bolted on the outside, unlike the cards tucked away in their slots, but as long as you attach it securely it shouldn't be anymore vulnerable than the other parts of the camera. Using a Mix of Storage OptionsAs with many things, you might decide that a mix of storage is right for you. It might be that if you're using an SSD you, sensibly, have SD/CFast cards as backups. Or for practical reasons you might want to stick to SD/CFs because you use those across other cameras/devices and it makes sense to be able to flip between them rather than buying something separate. In the camera settings you can tell your PCC which storage option to use if you have more than one plugged in. For example, we have it set to use whichever has the most storage space, which saved us recently when during an interview. The SSD data cable failed, so the camera then flipped to the next available storage which was an internal card. If you're looking for the most for your money while not compromising on write speeds, then a solid-state hard drive is a good choice, but remember to buy two good data cables – one as a spare! Also think about how you'll securely attach that to your current rig. Include a good backup option that will do in a pinch – if you run out of storage or if something fails – like a mid-price BM recommended SD or CFast card, and you'll be ready to film with confidence. Posted: 30 Aug 2021 08:30 AM PDT React Native is a cross-platform mobile application development framework that Facebook created in 2015. React Natives uses JavaScript as the underlying programming language, and it aims to help developers can build native mobile apps for both Android and IOS devices with a single codebase. In this post, I'll introduce some of the key concepts and components. What is Cross-Platform DevelopmentCross-platform development is the art of writing software that runs on different platforms; you write your codebase once and share it across different platforms. Cross-platform development provides you with a broad target audience since you have various options for running your codebase. For example, one app can be shared across both Android and IOS devices, resulting in a broader user base. Features of React NativeLets look at some of the features of React Native. Write Once and Use EverywhereReact Native uses the write once and use everywhere approach; this means that the code written in React Native can be used to build native applications that work on multiple platforms. Large Community BaseSince React native is based on JavaScript, it has a significant adoption rate and a large community base. JavaScriptis the most popular front-end programming language and is used to power almost all websites. Third-Party Packages and PluginsWith React Native, you can use third-party plugins and packages to enhance the capabilities of your application. In fact, many open-source JavaScript libraries found on NPM can be used with React Native. Fast RefreshFast refresh is a React Native feature that allows you to get near-instant feedback for changes in your code. With the fast refresh feature you can see each UI change immediately as you update your code. Ability to Build Cross-Platform Apps QuicklyWith React Native, you don't need to learn IOS or Android programming unless you are building a complex app. This means that you can develop your app entirely in JavaScript and share the code in different platforms that work in IOS and Android. It Doesn't Need a CompilerReact Native has a hot reload feature that lets you see your results after every change you make in your code, unlike a native app where you have to compile your code every time you make your changes. Easy to DebugReact Native leverages Chrome and Safari developer tools hence letting developers detect and solve errors quickly. Some of the popular apps build with React Native include:
How Does React Native work?Unlike in React, which renders to the web's DOM, React Native renders to native iOS or Android views: This allows developers to build native iOS and Android applications just by using React Native. React vs React NativeReact and React Native are pretty similar since they both use JavaScript; however, they are also different.
How to Set Up a React Native Development EnvironmentLet's assume you wanted to create an android and IOS app; you would have two separate development environments, ie. Xcode and Android Studi. However, with React Native, you only need one tool to support both versions. Expo CLIExpo CLI is a command line app that allows developers to build cross-platform apps without touching Android Studio or Xcode. Expo enables you to run projects built by Create React Native App without compiling any native code. Expo will also let you get an application up and running with almost no configuration. How to Install Expo CLInpm install -g expo-cli Expo AppOnce you have the Expo CLI installed on our development machine, the next requirement is to install the Expo Go app on an IOS or Android device to run your apps. The Expo go app allows you to open up apps that are being served through Expo CLI. You can install it from the following links depending on your device.
To create a new app with Expo, run the following command expo init my-app React Native ComponentsLet's looks at React Native components and how you would typically use them in your React Native app. The |

Whether you use Elements or GraphicRiver to source a template for PowerPoint quiz questions with answers, you've made a great choice. Let's learn how to create a quiz in PowerPoint. How to Make a Quiz In PowerPoint (How to Use PowerPoint Quiz Templates)Let's learn how to create a fun, interactive PowerPoint quiz in just a few quick steps. A proven way to boost audience engagement is to get them involved. An interactive quiz PPT is a great way to do that. Remember, you don't have to use a slide specifically designed for quizzes. Instead, you can build slides of your own. For our tutorial, we'll use Agio to show you how to make a quiz game on PowerPoint. This template works great for PowerPoint multiple-choice questions and answers. Let's walk through exactly how to change any slide into a multiple-choice PowerPoint game in just four easy steps. It's easier than you think to create a multiple-choice PowerPoint. Then we'll review and add it to another slide deck. 1. Customize Questions and AnswersWhen you make a quiz in PowerPoint, questions and answers are the key feature. It makes sense to start there. Begin by quickly removing clutter from the slide. This includes two subtitles, along with footers in the lower corners. Click on any of the text boxes. Then hold down Shift on your keyboard while selecting the other items. Then, press Delete. Now you'll have a cleaner slide to work with. Adding custom Q&A is easy. In the title box, highlight the current text inside, then start typing over it to add a question. Remember, you may need to expand or resize a text box for your text to fit inside. To resize a text box, click and drag on a corner to scale it. Repeat those simple steps in each of the four designated answer blocks. 2. Change Font Colors and StylesChanging font styles and colors is easy, and a leading way to add contrast. Let's change the color and style of the word "Trivia" and each of the four answer possibilities. Begin by highlighting "Trivia." Navigate to the Home tab on PowerPoint's ribbon. The left half includes the Font group, and that's where to find text options. A shade of green would add subtle contrast, so click on the Font Color drop-down. A pre-built theme like Agio will include its own set of Theme Colors. These are customized color palettes unique to the template. Those will display first, with Standard Colors (typical PPT colors) immediately below. For the most customization, click More Colors, which brings up a color wheel for exact color creation. There's a nice shade of green within Standard Colors, so go ahead and click on it. PowerPoint will apply it to the highlighted text automatically. Go ahead and use these same steps to other blocks of text you want to change. Pro tip: for the answer choices, if you want the same color for all four, select all four text boxes by using Shift + Click. In this way, your color edit will apply to all of them at once. 3. Add Custom IconsThe icons shown on the slide can be used to reveal the right and wrong answers. The Agio template includes hundreds of customized icons. Another option is to use PowerPoint's built-in symbol library. This can be found on the Insert tab under Symbols. Agio's symbols are on the very last slides in the template. A check mark would make sense for the correct answer, with an X-mark for an incorrect one. Browse through the icon choices until you find each of these. Then select both using Shift + Click and copy them to your clipboard by using Ctrl + C on Windows or Cmd + C on Mac. Back on your slide, paste them in with Ctrl / Cmd + V. Delete the existing icons, and then click and drag these into place. For a multiple-choice quiz, you'll want three X-marks, so repeat the copy/paste technique to duplicate them. Then position them into place, and you're all set. 4. Build Animations to Build SuspenseYour PowerPoint presentation quiz won't be much fun if the audience can identify the right answer immediately. The solution: animate the icons onto the slide one by one, after people have had the chance to answer. Some slides may be pre-animated, but it helps to start with a clean slate. Click on the first icon. Then go up to the Animations tab. On the right side, click Animation Pane. Select the list of animations with Shift + Click, then press Delete. The vision for this slide is to have all content except the four icons already visible. Then, with a click, each of the four will display one by one. Here, a simple effect is best. To add an animation, click Appear on the left side of the Animations tab. The animation is applied to the shape. Repeat these steps to add animations to the other three icons. Finally: Review and InsertWhen you're finished with your quiz presentation PPT, review your slides to ensure everything is working the way you'd envisioned. To do that, choose Slide Show on the ribbon, then click on Play from Current Slide. You might prefer to add this slide to an existing PPT file. Copying and pasting slides between templates is easy. Click on the slide thumbnail in PowerPoint's sidebar, then copy it with Ctrl + C or Cmd + C. Jumping to the slide deck you're pasting into, right-click in the sidebar in the location you wish to paste to. To keep the formatting we just applied, choose Keep Source Formatting. If you need to match the new file, Use Destination Theme is the right choice. How to Round Corners in Illustrator Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:00 AM PDT In the following tutorial, you'll learn how to round corners in Illustrator. There are several different methods to achieve this, so pick the one which best helps solve your problem. 1. How to Round Corners Using Live Corner WidgetsLet's get to rounding some corners in Adobe Illustrator. A couple of helpful panels to get you started are:
Step 1Let's say we have this star object, and you wish to apply rounded corners to all its edges. By using the Direct Selection Tool (A) and selecting the shape, you will notice the appearance of the Live Corners widget; little circular nodes in the internal and external corners of the shape. This Live Corners widget has been available in Adobe Illustrator CC since 2014. You can increase/decrease the curve of the shape, by dragging the nodes inwards and outwards. The curvature will appear in red once the maximum possible curve point has been reached. Step 2If you wish to round an individual corner, then use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to double-click on one of the Live Corners widgets. This will open a dialog box that will allow you to edit the options for the selected anchor point. Select Corner: Round option, and set the desired Radius size and Rounding style. Step 3Did you know you can also round multiple selected corners in Adobe Illustrator? For example, say you have two separate paths. Use the Direct Selection Tool (A), and hold the Shift key to select multiple nodes you'd like to round. Then head over to the Corners link in the above Control bar, and manually set the Corner Radius pt value. Or you can simply click and drag the Live Corner widgets to the desired roundness. Step 4Another technique for rounding or editing the corner radius is displayed within the Transform panel (Window menu > Transform). You can easily set the radius value from the Corners section. Step 5What to do if you can't round a corner on a path or object? Sometimes, you might run into the situation where the Live Corner widgets are not showing. First, check that your Adobe Illustrator version is no earlier than the Illustrator CC/17.1 version, which introduced Live Corners. Second, make sure View > Show Corner Widgets is on. Third, check if the anchor point is actually a corner. Select the point using the Direct Selection Tool, and then head over to the Convert section in the Control bar and click the Convert selected anchor points to corner icon. If you still cannot round the corners after this point, then the issue is probably due to the object being too small. To solve it, scale the object until you see the widgets appear. This might disrupt the original object size, but after making the rounding corner modification, you can simply scale it back. 2. Other Techniques to Round Corners In IllustratorThere are various methods to quickly round corners or edges on a path or shape, using Illustrator's basic tools. Let's have a look at the options. Method 1: Learn How to Use the Anchor Point ToolSometimes, when a path or shape is selected, it might display both sharp edges and smooth corners. You will notice that some corners will not have Live Corners. The sharp edges will show anchor points with no handles, while smooth corners are presented as anchor points with handles. To edit the smooth corners, you must convert them to sharp anchor points. To do so, use the Anchor Point Tool (Command-C). So to convert the sharp corners, just click, drag, and release an anchor point to drag the handles out. And to convert smooth corners, simply click the anchor point to remove the handles, and then adjust the rounding using the Direct Selection Tool (A). Method 2: Round Corners Using the Convert Button OptionThis method of rounding corners in Illustrator uses the Convert button option. If you have a single anchor point selected, move over to the Properties panel, where you will notice a Convert section displayed. The first button will convert to a sharp corner, while the second button will Convert selected anchor points to smooth. Method 3: How to Apply a Stylize Effect to Round CornersNext, learn how to round the corners of rectangles in Illustrator, or basically any shape that needs round edges. Once you have the shape selected, apply Effect > Stylize > Round Corners, and you will see the dynamic effect being applied uniformly to the appearance of your object. You can define the curvature of the rounded curve by setting the Round Corners: Radius pt value, from the dialog box. 3. How to Apply Round Corners to an Image in Adobe IllustratorFor the last method, let's assume you have a photo image and you want to know how to make rounded corners in Illustrator. We have used a colorful educational toy photo from Envato Elements for this quick tip. Step 1Import the image onto your artboard (File > Place). Then choose the Polygon Tool, under Rectangle Tool (M) in the Tools menu, and draw a hexagon shape over the image. Step 2Select both the hexagon and the photo using the Selection Tool (V). Then Object > Clipping Mask > Make (Command-7) to create a clipping set that masks the photo. Step 3Then take the Direct Selection Tool (A), hold the Shift key, and select multiple Live Corners nodes from the top and bottom of the hexagon. Drag the nodes towards the center of the shape, and you will have rounded the image corners. You Gained a Skill! Now you have gained the skills of how to round corners in Illustrator!
